3rd Community meeting 2019: CO2 conversion using renewable energy

3rd Community meeting 2019: CO2 conversion using renewable energy

On Tuesday, September 24th, the third VoltaChem Business community meeting of the year will be held. Topic of this Community Meeting is CO2 conversion using renewable energy.

During this meeting, opportunities and possibilities for CO2 utilization will be explored from multiple perspectives and applications. Earl Goetheer, Principal Scientist at VoltaChem, will give a perspective on the implications of these developments and the connections to VoltaChem’s mission to accelerate industrial electrification.

Twence, Coval and the VoltaChem team have developed a pilot formic acid plant at Twence’s facilities in the east of the Netherlands. VoltaChem community member Frank Schreurs of Coval will elaborate on the business case and you will gain insight into the whole chain from CO2 capture, ultimately to a final product.

We will then turn to a completely different industry. Martina Fantini from LEAP will share insights in the CLEANKER project, which aims at demonstrating the Calcium Looping (CaL) concept- a promising technology for CO2 capture in cement plants. She will share learnings from the cement plant operated by Buzzi Unicem in Italy.

Site visit

Part of the program is to see CO2 utilization live in action by means of a unique site visit to Twence. Twence is a producer of raw materials and energy from waste flows and biomass. Twence will open its facilities to the community and show their current CO2 capture processes. In addition, Andy Roeloffzen from Twence will elaborate on the sodium bicarbonate developments.

After the wrap-up, there is a networking opportunity during the drink.
