Fieldlab Industrial Electrification collaboration startedPort of Rotterdam, InnovationQuarter, TNO, Deltalinqs and FME have joined forces within the Fieldlab Industrial Electrification, a new innovation hub for testing Power-2-X technologies on a large scale in the Rotterdam-Moerdijk area. This Fieldlab is the first place in The Netherlands where Power-2-X technologies can be further developed and tested on this scale in an open innovation location. The partners will use the Fieldlab to support (regional) industrial stakeholders. TNO will also use the location to develop technologies from the Shared Innovation Program VoltaChem into industrial practice.

The Rotterdam-Moerdijk Harbor Industry Complex is a major consumer of energy and causes almost 20% of CO2 emissions in the Netherlands. To achieve the objectives of the climate agreement, drastic measures are required, such as CO2 reduction, improvement and efficient use of energy and raw materials. The application of electrification, also known as Power-2-X, has proven to be an important an not to be ruled out sustainability option. Fossil-driven processes are being replaced by electrically-driven processes. To advance this technology, it must be tested on a large scale and in the desired application. Only then will investors and end users want to invest in development, demonstration or implementation. To change this, Port of Rotterdam, InnovationQuarter, TNO, Deltalinqs and FME have joined forces within the Fieldlab Industrial Electrification, which will be launched on February 10th. The Fieldlab is the first place in the Netherlands where Power-2-X technologies on this scale can be further developed and tested with regional industry partners in an open innovation location.

Fieldlab Hub and on-site demonstration

The Fieldlab Industrial Electrification consists of two important parts. On the one hand there is a 'Fieldlab Hub' where the partners work on testing and scaling up new technologies in the existing value chain. Collaboration will be sought with the business community and research and educational institutions in the region. In addition, there is special attention for collaboration with potential value chain partners and room for realizing business cases. The second part of the Fieldlab consists of demonstration sites on location at companies where these new techniques are applied in practice and experiences can be exchanged and viewed. The initiative is strongly supported by the Municipality of Rotterdam, the Province of South Holland and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy and the European Commission. Online launch event

The online launch event will take place on February 10th, during which the future of industrial electrification will be discussed with relevant parties from the sector. During the online launch, big names in the field, such as Rob Kreiter (TKI) Marcel Galjee (Nouryon) and Yolande Verbeek (Uniper) will share their vision of the future and the way in which the fieldlab can support the implementation of new technologies. There is plenty of room to start a conversation and to ask questions. We will separate in break-out sessions for an in-depth discussion with experts from industry, research and educational institutions and value chain partners. You can register here.
