Upscaling potential and techno-economical evaluation of Solid Oxide Electrolysis Within the Next Level SOE project, VoltaChem, (Powered by TNO) and ISPT have performed a feasibility study to upscale the use of SOEC and assess its viability as a solution for producing hydrogen, carbon monoxide and syngas through electrolysis. In this way, industry can contribute to the goal of achieving a CO2-neutral Europe by 2050.

And while renewable electricity is gaining an increasing share of energy production in Europe and around the world, it’s not suited to every industrial application. Some energy-intensive industries – such as refining, ammonia production, and steelmaking – depend on other fuels and feedstocks.

We are proud to present this paper which highlights the key enablers for accelerating the roll-out of Power-to-X applications and provides examples of the technical advancements made within the E2C project, combined with an economic analysis comparing production costs of Power-to-X and CCU processes with conventional production routes. A set of policy recommendations are provided.
