Smart integration strategies create viable business cases in electrochemical CO2 conversion

In a recent article in the Dutch journal NPT Process Technology, VoltaChem scientists Anca Anastasopol and Earl Goetheer present an integrated process approach for electrochemical CO2 utilization. They argue that by combining technological building blocks in a smart way, viable business cases can already be created in the short term, truly moving ahead and changing the paradigm of CO2 being a waste.

New eCOUCH project develops route towards efficient electrochemical CO2 utilisation

VoltaChem/TNO, Avantium and the University of Amsterdam are joining forces in the development of a highly efficient electrochemical process for the conversion of carbon dioxide. In the eCOUCH project, they aim to demonstrate at the bench scale how paired electrolysis can produce both chlorine and carbon monoxide, starting from hydrochloride acid and carbon dioxide. The high electron efficiency of the process promises a much better business case than more conventional electrochemical CO2 conversion approaches

ReFuel: Establishing the potential of hydrogen production for waste incineration plants

In a new study, the feasibility of hydrogen production by waste incineration plants will be investigated. The study, part of VoltaChem's Power-2-Hydrogen program line, focuses on the 'ReEnergy' waste incineration plant in Roosendaal. By using about a third of its 20 MW electrical power generation for the production of hydrogen, the plant could substantially contribute to facilitating the energy transition, particularly in the Roosendaal region.
